Murmurings

 photo mermaid-post.jpg

Happy New Year fellow fashion adventurers!  To kick things off, I thought I would share a little mood board for an upcoming shoot I'm styling; lots of textures, sugar sweet pastels, shimmering sequins and whimsical accessories.

What do you think? I'm excited about this one as it's something that has been in the works for a while so hopefully it will all go to plan!

Red Hot

 photo 2766314_DSC_2671-001.jpg photo sunset7.jpg photo Studded-Hearts-Rosie-Huntington-Whiteley-Burberry-red-suit.jpg photo redhot6.jpg photo Red-suit-c.jpg

I've fallen hard for this red hot monotone look. I'm in the midst of trying to weigh up whether wearing it will be worth all the too-easy puns and perhaps peculiar looks that will inevitably go with it. All of the looks below are prime examples of how to do it 'right.

With a colour themed wedding reception on the horizon of 'red, black and white' I feel like it would be the perfect opportunity to rock that beautiful H&M two piece pyjama-esque suit as worn by Camille. Whether or not I'm brave enough to do so is a different matter...it doesn't help that the boy isn't keen either!

Highlights

The neon trend has been around for a while now but I love this update on it for winter. Adding a highlighter bright beanie to an otherwise more neutral outfit instantly gives it a lift. My favourites are the ones  in a soft mohair or cashmere fabric, such as the Acne one above worn by Elin Kling.

G.I Jane

Is it just me or is camo print looking really good right now? This is one trend I wouldn't really have seen myself resurrecting from my school days but like a lot of other 90's grunge inspired trends it seems to be making a comeback.  My favourite way to wear it is in the form of oversized, 'stolen from your boyfriend' style jackets- I just can't get enough.

And even better, they're surprisingly versatile and pretty perfect for the rather unpredictable weather of our British 'summertime'; looking just as great with your trusty denim cutoffs and vintage band tee as they do thrown over a 'barely there' mini worn with bare legs and sleeves rolled up to reveal stacks of arm swag.

(Zero UV Sunglasses, Truly Madly Deeply top, Primark skirt, Barratts gladiator sandals)

So after much procrastinating and some discussion I have something new to show on the blog today in the form of the above 'Outfit of the Day'/ editorial!

It was seriously warm on the day we happened to shoot these which meant I lost the will to be photographed after about an hour of running around in the blazing sun... despite this I think we still managed to get some good shots, which was in no small part down the patience of the photographer.  Anyway I hope you enjoy our little collaboration.

Cleopatra Style

When I was younger I was obsessed with Egyptology. Obsessed. My parents bought me this kit and it was full of puzzles and facts all about Tutankhamen and other Egypt related stuff and I used to copy all the hieroglyphics and strange symbols in gold marker and have them stuck all over my bedroom walls. Maybe slightly strange for a 10 year old girl but hey, these people worshipped cats so they must have been doing something right.

NY based designer Mara Hoffman's website cites her inspiration is taken from 'nature, world travel and fantasy' which makes her a girl after my own heart but it looks like we also have another thing in common if her SS12 swimwear line is anything to go by.   The collection is filled with imagery from Ancient World and consists of one and two piece swimsuits with unusual placed but simultaneously flattering cut outs.  Prints, patterns and symbols which wouldn't look out of place inside a Pharaoh's tomb all adorn these beautifully designed pieces.

I am especially taken with the sarcophagi printed, cross back maxi dress which would make a beach cover up.  Or worn on a balmy summer night sipping cocktails beneath the palm trees, it would be fit for an Egyptian queen.

Oh My Love

PhotobucketOh My Love Cut Out Maxi Dress - £45

I'm a little bit enamoured with this 90's inspired maxi dress from British label Oh My Love. The combination of the minimalist shape, covetable cut out sides and the grungey button down maxi design make it surprisingly versatile too.

It looks great with a whole stack of bangles and layered ethnic style charm necklaces to for the evening as pictured above . Or team it with a lumberjack shirt, round Lennon sunglasses and a pair of beat up Converse as a more casual daytime alternative.

What's this then?  Another day and another look book from those seemingly unstoppable Planet Blue girls!

This has to be one of my favourites to date featuring a lavender haired desert rose, Chloe Norgaard sporting pieces from Mara Hoffman and Planet Blue's own label Blu Moon in equally psychedelic hues.  Folk inspired prints and patterns and sugar skull rings bringing to mind the Mexican festival of Dia De Los Muertos and are perfect for summer festival going.
