Images from Wildfox Fall 10 Look Book. I love Wildfox- the clothes are always so playful, whilst being very stylish at the same time. And their look books are always so beautiful to look at, they make me want to buy everything, which I guess is the point!
These images remind me of the film 'The Craft' that I first saw when I was about 15, and also really make me want to have an old school sleep over with my best girlie friends like we did when we were younger. We always had so much fun, and Wildfox always seems to capture that spirit.
I'm back! Apologies for the lack of posts this past week, but I was working my first ever fashion week- eeek! It was lots of hard work and now I have very sore feet but it was definitely an experience. I got to see several shows, including Marios Schwab, MAN, the 2812 presentation and even sat front row at Jenny Packham, but did not have the foresight to take a camera with me. Boo.
However I did steal some pitcures from one of the other interns. (Thanks Danielle!)
This past week at LFW Christopher Bailey debut a collection absolutely bursting with jackets, every one with that 'need it now' appeal. Each one was perfection, and with so many different styles to choose from, there was something for everyone.
From shearling and leather aviator-esque jackets with oversized collars, to military inspired pieces in khaki and classic navy, to dramatic voluminous shearling creations, and a beautiful long line pony skin overcoat- there was something to suit every taste and everything was super wearable.
Coupled with the fact that the outerwear and accessories were available online to pre-order right after the show, I predict a sell out.
After writing my Bardot inspiration post, I came across this editorial from Vanity Fair Italy (sorry, I couldn't find details from the shoot), in which the styling was all very Bardot-like.
Yet more proof of her influence and the relevance of this look today- stripes, kohl rimmed eyes and big bouncy hair- so chic!
Alice in Wonderland Limited Edition Book of Shadows is £28 and available exclusively from debenhams.com from 22nd February.
The box features a mirror nestled behind a pop-up scene of Alice in the mushroom forest. In a hidden drawer are 16 eye shadow shades with names like White Rabbit, Jabberwocky and Midnight Tea Party. It also includes two 24/7 Glide on Eye Pencils and eyeshadow Primer Potion.
Yet more Alice related goodies adding to one of the most hotly anticipated films of the year, Avril Lavigne releases the video for her new single and the theme song for the film, 'Alice Underground'.
Did you know the very first edition of the Alice story by Lewis Carroll was actually called 'Alice's Adventures Underground'? I think it's cool that song title seems to reference this, but it also fits in with the Gothic under tones of Burton's interpretation of the tale, and of course Avril's 'alternative' image.
The video sees Avril as Alice, following the White Rabbit down the rabbit hole, running through a dark forest and joining the Mad Hatter for tea. The video includes scenes from the film, which I would have expected but I found it quite annoying the way they had spliced it so as to make it seem that Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter was actually there with Avril, and used a lookalike for shots from further away. I didn't think it was very well done, and detracts from the video as a whole. I guess they didn't have much of a budget but I enjoyed the Wonderland imagery overall.
What do you think of the video? Post your comments and let me know.
Wednesday Addams eat your heart out! Looks like the trend for the Dark and Dangerous is here to stay for AW10.
At Proenza Schouler in NY this week Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough sent girls down the runway that would give Wednesday Addams a run for her money, complete with dark lips and stacked platforms, reminiscent of the 'Creeper' style much-loved by Gothic types!
There was more than an element of good school-girl gone bad, with black and white varsity jackets that came trimmed with lurid green and purple fur collars, collared blouses and dresses, and flippy little minis in stripes and pleats that were worn over sheer black thigh high suspenders.
There was also graffiti style print that appeared throughout the collection printed on jeans and dresses. Some of the stand out pieces of the collection were the totally wearable long sleeved baby-doll mini dresses that bore prints in hues of electric blue, white and glowing green that stood out against the black.
One such dress worn by Siri Tollerød, came in a bright yellow print that was especially striking against her platinum hair and dark lips. I have a feeling this is a collection that many will be taking pointers from come next winter.
I was inspired by Nicole's retro outfit in my last post, and began to look at pictures of old movie stars. One of my favourites has to be 60's siren Brigitte Bardot. I love her messy bed head hair and sultry pout.
I'm aware she is much more of a controversial figure nowadays, but I thought I would post these pictures any how as a reminder of the influence of icons such as Bardot, that can still be seen today. Plus she is just plain gorgeous! And is it just me or does she remind you of a cross between Lara Stone and model of the moment, Georgia May Jagger?!
